Quote of the Week 8-12-2024
“It hasn't always been easy. There's a lot of hard moments. Sometimes you learn from the end of the bench. Sometimes you learn from injuries. Sometimes you learn the most through the hard things. If you can keep a good attitude and keep on working, eventually situations change, and you can put those things to use.”
NEWS
Welcome back friends! I want to start with some positivity- Monday will be Charlotte’s birthday, Dipsy’s birthday, and possibly the arrival of James’ son. Blessings all around. Charlotte will be joining us for her first official WOD at 4:30 pm please cheer her along!
Now I just want to send some prayers to a Community that, good, bad, or indifferent I have been a part of for fifteen years. Last week was a sad one for CrossFit- unfortunately an Athlete passed away at the Games. Even though this was a “freak” accident I must say, I am deeply saddened by the lack of oversight from CrossFit HQ.
From day one our gym has always put Athletes first. The safety and wellbeing of you guys is paramount. We have never cut corners or provided second rate service in this regard. In the early days of CrossFit, HQ was of the same mind.
I think the time has come to face the harsh reality that since private equity purchased the CrossFit brand a few years ago, the Community focus has been destroyed from the top down. I have been incredibly loyal to this brand- I paid multiple affiliate fees at multiple locations even when I knew I could get away with paying a single time. We stuck with them during their truly awful social media campaigns in the early days. We stuck around to see how they would clean up the mess after Greg Glassman went off on sexist and racist rants. We stuck around through Covid when we were forced to shut down and HQ did NOTHING to support us.
Clearly these acts have gone against our core values and our mission. HQ has made it clear that all we were actually paying for all these years was simply the name “CrossFit”. We stand for more than that. We stand for Community, and purpose, and justice. We are more than a name. We are more than a gym.
I am leaving it up to you guys but it is my vote to never again financially support a brand who refuses to support us. The oversights by HQ under private equity have led to the disintegration of the brand name, brand loyalty, and now the death of one of our Athletes.
