“What a privilege it is to be tired from the work you once begged the universe for”
NEWS
Welcome back friends! Every summer as the temperatures climb outside, I get the same question: "Why is it so cold in here?" The answer is simple and kind of speaks to the whole reason I opened our place- the Athletes come first. Keeping the air conditioning set at 60 degrees isn't the cheapest decision I could make…In fact, it's one of the more expensive choices we make during the summer months. But at Red Woods Fitness, we've never believed that the easiest financial decision is always the right one. Our job isn't just to provide equipment. Our job is to provide Coaching. To me, great Coaching means creating an environment where Athletes can perform at their best. It goes beyond counting reps. It’s much more than handing someone a workout.
A good Coach pays attention to the details. We watch movement quality. We adjust technique. We encourage effort when it's needed and rein it back when necessary. We recognize when someone needs to be challenged and when they need to recover. The environment matters just as much. Training in excessive heat can increase fatigue, slow recovery, reduce focus, and make it much harder to perform quality movements safely. While some athletes intentionally train in the heat for specific reasons, the majority of strength and conditioning sessions are more productive when Athletes can focus on moving well and not simply surviving the temperature.
When our Athletes walk through the doors, we want the only challenge to be the workout itself, not the climate inside the building.
This week’s chat is of course not about the thermostat, it’s about my commitment to you. Every decision we make at Red Woods Fitness starts with one question: "Is this what's best for our Athletes?" Sometimes that means investing in new equipment. Sometimes it means continuing our education so we can become better Coaches. And sometimes it means paying a higher electric bill so every Athlete has a comfortable place to train, push themselves, and improve. We consider this an investment in the people who trust us with their fitness.
At Red Woods Fitness, we're committed to Coaching first, Athletes first, and creating an environment where everyone has the opportunity to be their best.
