Quote of the Week 9-7-2026

“Growth and comfort do not coexist”

NEWS

Welcome back friends!  I wanted to thank you all for showing up to our End Of Summer BBQ last week. Made me feel proud about the Community we have. Some of my conversations made me reflect on who we really are and what the hell I am even doing with this project…

Authentic Over Everything- There are easier ways to run a gym. There are trendier ways. There are probably (definitely) more profitable ways. But I have never been interested in building Red Woods Fitness around whatever happens to be popular this month. I have never chased fads. I have never chased dollars at the expense of authenticity. And dammit I never will.

When we put something in front of you at Red Woods Fitness, you can trust one thing: I believe in it. FULLY.

We train in the ways that I have actually trained. We move in methodology that I have myself bled for. A heavy barbell. A fast metcon. An atlas stone. Olympic lifting. Strength work. Conditioning. Technique. Coaching. Community. Fun.

Make no mistakes folks- we are breathing rare air here. We are either a dying breed or the tip of the spear on what's to come in the fitness space. Show me another boutique gym that can pay their rent from a heavy barbell…I’ll wait.

None of these things are offered because somebody on social media told us they were the next big thing. No marketing gurus or trendy influencers. They are here because they work. They are here because I have used them, I have struggled with them, I have learned from them, I have bled from them. And over years of training and Coaching, I have seen nothing like them make people stronger, fitter, more capable, or more confident. That matters to me.

Something that needs to be said- there is a difference between exercising and training. You can make almost anything tiring. We used to use a term “any a**hole training” because anybody could program it. Some places turn the lights down, crank up the music, make people sweat for 45 minutes, and call it fitness. But being exhausted at the end of class does not automatically mean you are getting better. We believe in a technique-driven approach to group fitness. We teach, we Coach, we correct, we progress movements, we Coach again.

We want you to understand what you are doing and why you are doing it. Sometimes that means slowing down when the easier thing would be to go faster. Sometimes it means spending time learning a lift instead of simply trying to burn more calories. Sometimes it means putting something heavy in your hands and discovering that you are capable of far more than you thought. That is training!

At our BBQ I realized that honestly, I could chase every trend. The fitness industry is constantly reinventing itself. There is always a new class, a new machine, a new certification, a new shortcut. Always some new “revolutionary” way to get fit. And yes, I could probably attract more people if I changed directions every time the wind blew. Orange Theory, heart rate monitors, hyrox only, slack lines, whatever. I could water down the training. I could follow whatever happens to be getting the most attention online. I could try to be everything to everyone. Maybe a better businessman would do just that.

But somewhere along the way, Red Woods Fitness would stop being Red Woods Fitness.

I'm not interested in that.

The people who stay understand! After almost 16 years I know our approach isn't for everyone. It isn't supposed to be. In fact, that’s the damn point. But the people who continue to walk through our doors and pay us their hard-earned tuition understand that they are getting something more than access to a room full of equipment. You're paying for Coaching. You're paying for experience. You're paying for programming with purpose. You're paying to be part of a Community that wants to see you succeed. And maybe most importantly, you're paying for something real. No gimmicks. No pretending. No chasing the flavor of the month. Just training that we genuinely believe in.

Authenticity still matters! In a world where nearly everything is marketed, optimized, sponsored, filtered, and packaged to sell you something, I think authenticity matters more than ever. I want you to know that when I recommend something, it's because I believe it will help you.

When we program something, there is a reason. When we Coach something a certain way, there is experience behind it. And when Red Woods Fitness stands behind something, we stand behind it completely.

Could we be bigger if we chased every fad? Maybe. But bigger has never been the goal. BETTER IS. Better Coaching, better Athletes, better relationships. And a gym where the people inside know exactly what we stand for. Thank you to every person who continues to trust us with your training and health. Thank you for valuing the heavy barbells, the fast metcons, the awkward atlas stones, the technique, the Coaching, the laughs, and everything else that makes this place what it is. Thank you for valuing something greater than the latest trend- authenticity.
