Quote of the Week 11-14-2022

“The best gifts are the ones you give”.

NEWS

Welcome back friends!  I say it every week but I really do mean that “friends” part.  In fact, you guys are clearly more than that- you are my tribe.  You get it.  I learned at a young age, dating as a redhead, that people were either going to love me or not even consider me.  I was for them or not at all.  Of course, the business I began reflects this same principle.  We are not for everyone.  But the people that we are for- you guys… boy, oh boy do you get it.

One of my Youth Council kids gave me a folded up paper swan this week as a joke.  But as he put it on my desk he said, “Here, I made this for you”.  I don’t know why, but that hit me and got me thinking about the whole idea of creating something for someone else.  I find it so interesting that if the same precious picture drawn by a child, given as a gift for their parent was instead found on a factory floor, the janitor would not think twice about throwing it in the trash.  That drawing simply was not for the janitor.  That drawing was for the parents.  And so it gets memorialized and displayed on the refrigerator instead of the trash heap.

I think a lot of valuable things are like that.  The right person would pay some ridiculous amount of money for a designer handbag, I would step right over it.  In fact, I couldn’t imagine paying any amount of money for it.  Different people, different values.

I feel part of what bonds this Community is seeing the value in the same things.  We value Coaching and understand the gravity of that role.  We get that health and fitness are our greatest wealth.  We understand that being in great shape, being able to play with our grandkids one day, doing hard things well- these are in fact the greatest status symbols.  We know that having a Coach and a Community to walk side by side with in these endeavors is the best path.

Week after week I write to you guys because it is so important to me that you know how much I appreciate your support.  I feel so blessed that a silly dream has lasted for so long.  I am honored to serve you.  Maybe the most satisfying thing as of late is being able to build such a strong team to serve you even better.  It is no longer “my idea” , it’s OUR place.  It’s all yours.

Here- I made this for you.

P.S. I think there’s more of us out there.  Do us a favor and share this post somehow.  Text it to a friend, pop it in Instagram stories, share on Facebook, whatever.  The best part of our thing is it gets better the more people that are in on it.  And if this got shared with you shoot us an email and tell us what you think.

PROGRAMMING

Hitting some heavy doubles for our Olympic cycle.  Looking for touch and go reps and it’s time to really push our percentages.  We are on a burpee kick this week folks.  Some variation of burpees will be in most WODs, I like this since we won’t be able to cherry-pick.  For some reason I am SO looking forward to Friday’s “Prototype” even though I know it is going to be miserable.  But miserable fun.
